Google previously rumored to be working with Asus to create a Nexus tablet. The latest rumor states, there are some changes to the plan.
Previously,
Google is rumored to be interested in 7-inch tablet worth 249 U.S.
dollars made by Asus which uses quad-core processor Nvidia Tegra 3. The tablet was exhibited at the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas early in 2012.
However Androidandme received information from a senior employee at the company's U.S. supply chain. The source explained that Google wants Nexus tablet with a cheaper price.
Nexus desired tablet prices later in the range of 149-199 dollars. It's cheaper than the previous rumors on the price range of 199-249 U.S. dollars.
As a result, several changes were planned. Such as, replacing the Nvidia Tegra processor 3 with a cheaper processor. Chances are, Google will use Snapdragon processor for Nexus tablet.
Cheaper to make Google could compete directly with Amazon Kindle Fire tablet for 199 dollars.
"Yes,
it is planned it is. But a lot of our partners. Not just Google for
Nexus series, but also BlackBerry, Samsung, HTC and other vendors. Point
is still talked about," said Senior Director and Country Manager of
Qualcomm Indonesia Benhard Siagian told Compass . com after the seminar "Mobile Cloud Goes Are You Ready?" Balai Kartini in Jakarta, Wednesday (23/05/2012).
Although
not yet final, the Qualcomm will continue to focus on developing a
processor with the desired speed of mobile device users. If
the market is still using a processor with a speed of 2 GHz, it also
has released a Qualcomm processor with a speed of 2.5 GHz or so-called
Krait.
Amazon
Kindle tablet itself can release a Fire with a relatively cheap price
because the processor using the lower of the Tegra 3.
Amazon first had wanted to use Tegra processor on the Kindle 2 Fire, but was only given processor Kindle Fire OMAP4 Texas.
So far there has been no official word on the tablet which is said to be named Google's Nexus. Hopefully, the information will appear at the CTIA Wireless event, in May 2012.
